Genesis 2:17
Bella Swan gives up her life sunny Arizona to go live with her father in rainy Forks, Washington.  Bella doesn’t expect much but soon she meets the dazzling Edward Cullen.  She soon finds out that Edward isn’t normal.  He’s strong enough to stop a moving car with his bare hands.  He can run faster than a mountain lion.  His skin is ice cold and as hard as stone.  Did I mention that he hasn’t aged since 1918?
Edward is a vampire.  One that Bella is in love with.
But can he resist the sweet scent of her blood?
“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.”
Other AWESOME books in the Twilight series
New Moon   (awesome)
Eclipse          (awesomer)
Breaking Dawn     (awesomest)
P.S.!  People always ask me “what is better Twilight or The Hunger Games?”  Sorry, but you can’t compare the two because FIRST of all they are BOTH awesome and I highly recommend that you read both of them and SECOND of all I would probably answer the one that I read most recently.  Right now I would say Twilight.

A Land Remembered

By Patrick D. Smith

Follow the MacIvey family for three generations, from when they first moved down from Georgia to Florida in the 1800’s to the late 1900’s.

Homeless Bird

By Gloria Whelen

I read this book for literature class, so I didn’t choose to read this book.  I was pretty bored the first few chapters.  So she’s 13, living in India, she’s poor, she’s forced to get married to this boy, who dies quickly, and now she’s a widow.  There wasn’t any action.  Just her living with a mean mother-in-law.  I only got interested at chapter 10, and unfortunately, there were only 11 chapters.  Oh well.  And also, I thought there should be more to the story.  I couldn’t believe it had finished.  Now I have to make up my own ending.

I think it is a cool book to read if you want to learn a little bit about India.  If not, it is just boring.  Sorry.

The Proving Ground

By G. Bruce Knecht

The Sydney to Hobart race is a 630 mile mile sailing race and is among the hardest in the world.  However, no one predicted that a tradgedy would take place in 1998.  A massive storm struck the fleet, sending 40 foot waves and strong winds.

In this book, we follow 3 yachts as they struggle to survive in the dangerous waters.  It was a great book!

KONY 2012

Kony.  You might have heard his name, but do you really know who he is?  He is a horrible man in Uganda who kidnaps children and forces them to be child soldiers.  He has kidnaped more than 66,000 kids.  He makes them kill their families so that he can be sure they have no family to return to.  These children live in fear of being attacked by the rebels.  And this has been going on for 26 years.

So how did people find out about this video?  YOUTUBE.  Kony 2012 is a half an hour video that explains everything.

2012 is the year when we stop it.  We have to make him known to the world.  And heres how.

Tonight is Cover the Night.  Millions of people around the globe are going to stay up all night putting up posters so that when the world wakes up, they will finally know who Kony is.  We will get the government to help and we will finally free all of those poor child soldiers.

Obsessed with The Hunger Games? FanFiction

Look what I found!

How to know you’re obsessed with The Hunger Games.

-You hate who ever made up Team Peeta or Team Gale because it makes you think of Twilight and THG is to awesome to be related to anything.

-You listen to a random song and your eyes widen and you smile because it perfectly describes a certain moment in THG, CF ,or MJ.

-You have a mini spaz atack because you had a nightmare that Peeta/Gale died and Katniss didn’t care.

-You rushed into the book store and pushed someone away from the rack where mockingjay was and grabbed the book before anyone could take it from you.

-For girls with short hair: you jealous of your friends cause their hair is long enough to braid.

-On a hike/camping trip/outdoor excursion, you find yourself thinking about what wherever you are would be like as an arena.

-You’ve thought about learning archery, just in case.

-The first time you saw a poster for the movie “District 9”, you ran over thinking it was going to have something to do with THG. (But nope. It’s about aliens. And they’re not even in Panem.)

-You relate everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to THG.

-You know someone named Peter and accidentally call him Peeta

-You will never see the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” the same way again.

-Parent: Oh look, pita br- You: WHERE?

-You wait eagerly for any hint at possible casting roles. . . just so you can rant about why they’re all wrong.

-You ration your food and then realize you’re not, nor ever will be in the same situation.

-You talk about/to the characters of the books as if they are real or as if they could hear you.

-If you hear the word or see a Cornucopia, you immediately either look for food and weapons or run away fast.

-If you have memorized the book and go around quoting from it. =)

-You are now terrified of fog and monkeys.

-Every time you see someone with blonde hair and blue eyes, you think of Peeta.

– After reading Catching Fire, you went back a few pages and re-read the ending to make sure it really was that unbelievable.

-You literally cried when (Spoilers!!) Katniss sang to Rue while she was dying.

-You couldn’t decide whether to love Finnick or hate him.

-You’ve hated Haymitch, you’ve loved Haymitch, and you’ve been very pissed off by Haymitch.

-You want there to be a movie so badly so that you can obsess over whoever plays Peeta and/or Gale.

-You have been yelled at in laser tag because you thought you were in the arena, freaked out, and almost climbed the wall things.

-What is worse than either fog or monkeys alone? MONKEYS IN THE FOG!

If any of these things have happend to you…That means you’re offically OBSESSED!

Guess I’m officially obsessed!

The Cookies that were on Fire (lol not literally!)

Yesterday, I was bored so I decided to bake cookies.  I found this really cool website with a recipe to make these cookies they called “Sweethearts.”

They called them Sweethearts because they had stamped Hunger Games quotes and on them and because that is what Haymitch calls Katniss.  I call them the cookies that were on fire because they call Katniss “The Girl on Fire”.  They looked so cool!   I decided to try it but since I did not have the special kit I had to use a toothpick to carve the words! (That did not work out well!)

And I had to make half the recipe since I did not have enough butter. (It is NOT easy cutting an egg in half!)

Mockingjay (The Third Book of the Hunger Games)

By Suzanne Collins

“We had to save you because you’re the mockingjay, Katniss,” says Plutarch.  “While you live, the revolution lives.  The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames.  I am the mockingjay.  The one that survived despite the Capitol’s plans.  The symbol of the rebellion.”

My name is Katniss Everdeen.  I am seventeen years old.  My home is District 12.  I was in the Hunger Games.  I escaped.  The Capitol hates me.  Peeta was taken prisoner.  He is thought to be dead.  Most likely he is dead.  It is probably best if he is dead…

After being rescued from the Quarter Quell, Katniss now has to start a new life in the underground District 13 (yes, it exists) with her mother, sister, Gale, and the rest of the refugees who made it out of District 12 before it was bombed. There is nothing left of 12. There has been no news of Peeta who was captured by the Capitol.  No news of Cinna either.  No news at all.

The rebels want her to be the Mockingjay.  The face of the rebellion.  But does she want to?  Can she do it without Peeta?

What I thought:

I absolutely LOVED this series!  I loved all three books.  I recommend this series to anyone who can read.  I loved the epilogue and I loved the ending of the book.  The message received form these books are the effects war has on children.  How war changes you.  AND WHO WILL SHE CHOOSE?  PEETA OR GALE?

You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces. Katniss Everdeen

Quotes! (my favorite part!!!)

Peeta would have nothing to come home to anyway. Except me…  Katniss Everdeen

…it takes too much energy to stay angry with someone who cries so much.  Katniss Everdeen

What am I going to do?’ I whisper at the walls. Because I really don’t know. Katniss Everdeen

Oh, no. It costs a lot more than your life. To murder innocent people? It costs everything you are. Peeta Mellark

Is this really what we want to do? Kill ourselves off completely? In the hopes that–what? Some decent species will inherit the smoking remains of the earth?  Peeta Mellark

You could ask for the moon and they’d have to find some way to get it.  Gale Hawthorne

Finnick? Maybe some pants? Katniss Everdeen

Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us! Katniss Everdeen

I feel fine, really. Except for my head, and my leg, and the soreness from the bruises, and the nausea that hit a couple minutes after I ate. Maybe the wheelchair’s a good idea. Katniss Everdeen

Peeta’s right. They do fall silent when I sing. Just as they did for my father.  Katniss Everdeen

…I’m in pain. That’s the only way I get your attention. Gale Hawthorne

I should have drowned you [Buttercup] when I had the chance. Katniss Everdeen

Crazy cat becomes a metaphor for my situation. I am Buttercup. Peeta, the thing I want so badly to secure, is the light. Katniss Everdeen

I drag myself out of nightmares each morning and find there’s no relief in waking.  Finnick Odair

It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart. Finnick Odair

But in the end, the only person I truly want to comfort me is Haymitch, because he loves Peeta, too. Katniss Everdeen

Not only does he hate me and want to kill me, he no longer believes I’m human. It was less painful being strangled. Katniss Everdeen

Good news, Katniss! I think we’ve almost got him convinced you’re not a mutt! Plutarch Heavensbee

…Darius was teasing you about trading a rabbit for one of his kisses. And I realized…I minded. Gale Hawthorne

I’m alive. Katniss Everdeen  No kidding, brainless. Johanna Mason

I must have loved you a lot. Peeta Mellark

Fine. I’ll train. But I’m going to the stinking Capitol if I have to kill a crew and fly there myself. Johanna Mason

He never lets go of Annie’s hand. Not when they walk, not when they eat. I doubt he ever plans to. Katniss  Everdeen

What? My head doctor says I’m not suppose to censor my thoughts. It’s part of my therapy. Johanna Mason

Oh Peeta…Don’t make me sorry I restarted your heart. Finnick Odair

Roses. Wolf Mutts. Tributes. Frosted Dolphins. Friends. Mockingjays. Stylists. Me. Everything screams in my dreams tonight. Katniss Everdeen

Friend. Lover. Victor. Enemy. Fiancee. Target. Mutt, Neighbor. Hunter. Tribute. Ally. I’ll add it to the list of words I use to try to figure you out.  Peeta Mellark

The problem is, I can’t tell what’s real anymore, and what’s made up. Peeta Mellark

You’re still trying to protect me. Real or Not Real? Peeta Mellark   Real. Because that’s what you and I do. Protect each other. Katniss Everdeen

Stay with me. Katniss Everdeen
Always. Peeta Mellark,

Katniss will pick whoever she thinks she can’t live without. Gale Hawthorn

Closing my eyes doesn’t help. Fire burns brighter in the darkness. Katniss Everdeen

Listen to that. The Mockingjay found her voice.  Haymitch Abernathy

What is it sweetheart? More boy trouble? Haymitch Abernathy

Let me go! Katniss Everdeen  I can’t. Peeta Mellark

What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. Katniss

But there are much worse games to play.  Katniss Everdeen

Catching Fire (The Second Book of The Hunger Games)

By Suzanne Collins

An amazing book.  Really amazing.

“Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark, that left unattended, may grow into an inferno that destroys Panem.”

-President Snow

Katniss returns home after the hunger games and she should be happy.  Only, she isn’t.  She now has buckets of money, more than enough to feed her family and Gale’s also, but he won’t accept a single coin.  And now he works in the mines all day.  They only see each other on Sundays, and its not like it used to be before, when they could tell each other anything.  The Hunger Games have spoiled even that.

And Peeta won’t even talk to Katniss. 😦

Now it is time for Katniss and Peeta to go on the Victory Tour, President Snow gives Katniss a surprise visit.  By Katniss’s last act of defiance in the arena, the berries, she has created a spark.  A spark that she must now contain, to keep all of Panem from uprising.  But how?  By convincing all of Panem that that berries was an act of madness out of her love for Peeta.  By proving she loves Peeta.

How far will they go to prove the audiences that the act was a moment of madness out of her love for Peeta?

And will it be enough?

Also, Katniss is not sure how she feels about Peeta because she has Gale.  Who will she choose??

Go Team Peeta!

Quotable Quotes!
“Aim higher in case you fall short.”
― President Snow
“Peeta, how come I never know when you’re having a nightmare?” I say.
“I don’t know. I don’t think I cry out or thrash around or anything. I just come to, paralyzed with terror,” he says.
“You should wake me,” I say, thinking about how I can interrupt his sleep two or three times on a bad night. About how long it can take to calm me down.
“It’s not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you,” he says. “I’m okay once I realize you’re here.”
-Peeta and Katniss
“You know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him.”
“I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now and live in it forever.”
“So it’s you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans.”
“Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can’t help enjoying his distress.
“Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven’t looked pretty?” I say.
“It must be. The sensation’s completely new. How have you managed it all these years?” he asks.
“Just avoid mirrors. You’ll forget about it,” I say.
“Not if I keep looking at you,” he says.”
-Finnick and Katniss
“I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.”
“Peeta, you said at the interview you’d had a crush on me forever. When did forever start?Oh, let’s see. I guess the first day of school. We were five. You had on a red plaid dress and your hair…it was in two braids instead of one. My father pointed you out when we were waiting to line up.”Your father? Why?”He said, ‘See that little girl? I wanted to marry her mother, but she ran off with a coal miner.'”

What? You’re making that up!”

No, true story. And I said, ‘A coal miner? Why did she want a coal miner if she could’ve had you?’ And he said, ‘Because when he sings…even the birds stop to listen.”
-Katniss and Peeta

“Technically, I am unarmed. But no one should ever underestimate the harm that fingernails can do. Especially if the target is unprepared.”
― Katniss
“I’m going to wake Peeta,” I say.
“No, wait,” says Finnick. “Let’s do it together. Put our faces right in front of his.”
Well, there’s so little opportunity for fun left in my life, I agree. We position ourselves on either side of Peeta, lean over until our faces are inches frim his nose, and give him a shake. “Peeta. Peeta, wake up,” I say in a soft, singsong voice.
His eyelids flutter open and then he jumps like we’ve stabbed him. “Aa!”
Finnick and I fall back in the sand, laughing our heads off. Every time we try to stop, we look at Peeta’s attempt to maintain a disdainful expression and it sets us off again.”
― Finnick and Katniss
“So I only say, “So what should we do with our last few days?””I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you,” Peeta replies.”
― Peeta and Katniss
“At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it.”
― Katniss
“Look, if you wanted to be babied you should have asked Peeta.”
― Katniss
“I can only form one clear thought.

This is no place for a girl on fire.

“If I feel ragged, my prep team seems in worse condition, knocking back coffee and sharing brightly colored little pills. As far as I can tell, they never get up before noon unless there’s some sort of national emergency, like my leg hair.”
― Katniss
“Fine. Somebody else can arrange to get the stupid goat knocked up.”
― Katniss
“As the alcohol overcomes my mind, I hear the glass bottle shatter on the floor. This seems appropriate since I have obviously lost my grip on everything.”
“We can’t afford any drunkards on this team.  Especially not you, Katniss.
